Description
One of the most promising yet also perilous areas of application for (generative) artificial intelligence is biotechnology. From AI-assisted medical research to AI applications in therapy, and even not-so-futuristic use cases like mind-reading technology or animal sound translation, recent advances in artificial intelligence raise a number of important and intricate challenges.
In the coming years, I plan to dedicate a significant part of my work to the political-economic and regulatory dynamics at the intersection of AI and biotechnology. Potential projects could include empirically analyzing how dependent start-ups are on the infrastructure and intellectual property of large tech companies, how businesses justify their expansion into sensitive areas such as healthcare, or how data governance regulations both constrain and enable innovation
